Ann Arbor has a number of distinctive neighborhoods. Located immediately around the University of Michigan campus are the student neighborhoods, mostly apartments and rental houses. South of central campus are some more upscale homes. The old west side, west of Main street is quite nice. The east side, south of Washtenaw is also great with good access to 23 and 94, as well as a little lower prices. Many people who work in Ann Arbor also choose to live in the surrounding cities like Ypsilanti and Chelsea.
